Innovative program by the Municipality of Volvi in elementary schools
TWO ROBOTS TEACH THE MUNICIPALITY TO STUDENTS

The Municipality of Volvi has implemented an innovative environmental education program utilizing robotics in its elementary schools. In collaboration with ORTEM HELLAS S.A., it began implementing the environmental education program “The Municipality of Volvi needs me!”, where robotics combined with experiential play become allies in the effort to cultivate environmental awareness.
More specifically, the students of the 9 primary schools of the Municipality of Volvi, with the help of the humanoid robots “Pepper” and “Nao,” will learn about the fauna and flora of the habitats in their area, while at the same time exploring the ways in which residents relate to the natural environment of their place. They will also be informed about good practices that we can all (regardless of age) adopt in our daily lives to help protect the environment. Furthermore, the program will serve as a catalyst for familiarizing students with new technologies and robotics that have become an integral part of our daily lives and are an integral part of the future!
It is important to emphasize that Environmental Education plays a key role in cultivating environmentally friendly attitudes and behaviors, something that is now globally recognized, which is why it is included in European and international policies environmental protection and sustainability. The combination of Environmental Education and robotics promotes an enjoyable way of learning, while also encouraging children’s motivation, cooperation, self-confidence, and creativity. When robotics coexists harmoniously with experiential education elements, as in the “The Municipality of Volvi Needs Me!” program, then the learning process becomes… play!
